About Us

The idea for "a strawberry field" came with much opposition, with many a comment from locals such as "Strawberries will never sell around here!" .....how wrong they were!!!

This venture proved to be the start of the Mounce family's involvement in growing a wonderful array of seasonal fruit, vegetables and flowers that range from delicacies such as asparagus to the ever popular cabbage!

A quite by chance event brought the strawberry field's produce right into the heart of the village, when one of the local residents decided to push the farm barrow that had been used at the strawberry field out of the way and into a lay by opposite the Arundell Arms Hotel.  To the delight of local people as well as passers by, the barrow has remained there ever since and is laden with the same range of seasonal produce that is available in the Farm Shop.

Many people from the area will have sampled the delicious strawberries which have been a feature of Lifton for the past ten years.  The Pick-Your-Own Strawberry Fields have been an unqualified success and this is all down to the care and pride that Jo Mounce and her team have invested info all aspects of their products.

From this point the combined success of the farm barrow and the PYO led to the inevitable next step - a farm shop.....but where do you start with what seems like a good idea over a cup of tea?

After numerous planning meetings, discussions with environmental agency, builders, decorators, etc, (not forgetting the day to day running of the farming business) on 1st June 2002, the doors of the Lifton Farm Shop opened to the public for the first time.

The giant strawberry is now a familiar sign on the A30 and has attracted a varied audience to the shop.  The quality of produce and the service delivered is excellent.  Customers have commented on how great the atmosphere and how much the food reminds them of how food used to taste.

Farmers' breakfasts, the extremely popular Sunday roasts, the famous free range eggs, wonderful home baked cakes and the beautiful home reared British Beef available from the butchery along with other meat produce are just a few of the things available.
